GameChangers Recruitment is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel on behalf of a leading international energy company with active operations in Suriname. This is a rare opportunity to work embedded in a high-performing, multinational legal team — right at the heart of Suriname’s growing energy sector.

Role Overview

As Legal Counsel, you will work directly alongside the Head of Legal to support a broad range of business and operational activities. You’ll provide hands-on legal advice across contracts, procurement, HSE, and corporate matters — acting as a trusted, pragmatic partner to internal stakeholders. This is not a back-office role. You’ll be in the room, at the table, and expected to bring clear thinking and strong opinions. You will also play a key role in data protection compliance and in keeping the company ahead of changes in Surinamese legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Contracts

• Review legal documentation and agreements across departments including contracts, procurement, HSE, and business operations

• Provide ad-hoc, practical legal advice on a wide range of contractual and business matters

• Draft and negotiate contracts with clarity, precision, and commercial awareness

Legislation & Compliance

• Monitor changes in Surinamese legislation and regulations that impact company operations

• Maintain and upgrade internal legal digital tools to reflect legislative developments

• Support the Head of Legal in data protection compliance — local and international requirements

Legal Operations & Knowledge Sharing

• Contribute to cross-functional and cross-border legal initiatives

• Share best practices across the group and coordinate internal training with external counsel

• Liaise with internal stakeholders (including group affiliates), external counsel, and legal departments of regulatory bodies

Complex Legal Issues

• Assist in the analysis and resolution of complex new legal matters with forward-thinking and innovative approaches

• Act as a proactive, independent contributor who elevates the quality and efficiency of the legal function
